I, George, the founder and emperor supreme of The Vinyl Word, moved to New York City in March of 2024 knowing only a smattering of friends and relatives, and needed a way to meet more people.

I’ve always been a music geek and record collector, and have always wanted to find other like-minded music friends, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. I put up flyers advertising a ‘music book club’ all over NYC with my personal cell line on it, and hence, New York City’s greatest music book club/album appreciation club was born.

Since that fateful first meeting in 2024, The Vinyl Word has blossomed in ways I couldn’t imagine. What was initially an intimate book club has now grown into a thumpin room of young creatives and music lovers of all types sharing a listen to a classic album the way it was meant to be heard: on vinyl. We’ve branched into all sorts of events — listening parties, speed dating events, book launch parties, and even live shows, and there’s more to come!

Whatever the occasion, and whatever the album, the sole purpose of The Vinyl Word remains the same: give people a space to connect over the shared medium of music. This is how I made most of my close friends in the city, and I only hope to pass that gift to others :)
